Q. What is EkoSkola?
EkoSkola is an award programme aimed at actively involving students in environmental management of their school.
Q. Is EkoSkola another burden on the already overloaded curriculum?
No. EkoSkola aims to integrate environmental education within the school policy so as to develop an environmental ethic that is shared by the whole school.
Q. If we adopt EkoSkola, what do we do with environmental education projects that we are already organising in school?
EkoSkola provides an opportunity to integrate environmental initiatives together so as to ensure a holistic approach and better management of school time.
Q. Who can join the EkoSkola programme?
Every school (primary, secondary, post-secondary) can become an EkoSkola provided that the head of school supports the initiative and the school community agrees to participate in it.
It is an award that is given to the school that has managed to implement and maintain a programme of school development based on a plan of action identified by the school.
Q. What is the most essential criterion required for the award of the Green Flag?
Active student participation in decision making is the key element for success. The Green Flag is not just an indication of a large number of environmental initiatives, but a sign of democracy in schools. To qualify for the Green Flag students have to be actively involved in all the stages of the programme.
Q. How do we proceed once the Eco-Committee is set up?
The next step is to conduct an environmental audit of the school so as to identify what needs to be done to improve the quality of school life.
